Book review: Psychology from Islamic Perspective
This paper is abook review of
Psycologhy From Islamic Perespective that was bought by my lovely father last
year. He gave it to me because i took psycologhy for my master study.
This book was published by
International Islamic Publishing House and wrote by Ustadzah Aisha from Riyadh,
Saudi Arabia, 2011. From the cover, we can see that its using hard cover and
looked good and cool but also seems pretty weight to take out everywhere. But,
when we study the insight, i think it’s pretty worth it. The paper that used
was yellow coloured and has good quality. For a glance look, this book is
really cool.
The language that used is easy,
the english is light and the explanation is easy to understood. Whoever read
this book, even they not a scholars or some student collages, it still be easy for
them to understand this book.
The thickness of this book is volumed
351 pages. For some first pages, it contains table of content that have pretty long
list and take 4 pages to write all those list. After that, there are list of
Pronouciation and Transliteration Chart who take 6 pages. I think it’s
necessary to placed this kind of chart considering this book is English
Language but study the islamic perspective.
The first naration before preface
from the publishers is pretty interesting. This book talks about the
definitiion of jihad. It explained the proper context and real meaning about
jihad. I don’t know what is the correlation about psycologhy and jihad. But
instead, i think the author or the publishers want to straighten the wrong
perspective about Islam that have much attention about this word in non muslim
community. It’s was a wise decision and i appreciate that because i know,
today, this world who have so much attention to the west world, is pretty
unwelcome for any islamic science or islamic studies.
Before preface from the author,
there is also a page contain Publishers Note. in this page the publishers tells
us that psychology is one of the human nature but also flustered when we look
at some psycology theories, who underlies to the secular theories, is not give
us enough satifaction. So, Dr Aisha work is one of the solution of this confused.
Next, finally we reach the
Preface from the author. It’s interesting because she explain her experience
when she was student of psychology in United States. Automatically, she studied
about the secular theories first before she wrote this book. First, i think
this author was a student collage from some religious university in Arab, but
my asumption is totally wrong and it’s amazing to know that she didn’t let
herself drown in secular theories and still using Islam to lean on. Cool.
On her preface, she tells about
the modern psychology now had pointing the effect of religousity in the lives
of individuals. it’s gladly to know that they found spirituality as an extremly
beneficial factor in preventing, managing, and recovering from emotional,
psychological and phsycal illnesses. This reaserch, in reality, point to the
truth of Islam. MasyaAllah J
Well, it’s nice to see when she
end her preface with an ayat:
We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until
it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning
your Lord that He is, over all thing, a Witness?
(41; 53)
That’s some short opening about
this book, well, i hope you’ll enjoy this review so you can get the knowledge
withour read all the pages. See you in next review, happy reading O Readers!
